A motor vehicle from outside of Alberta must pass an out of province inspection before license plates are issued.

Our journeyperson technician, licensed by the Vehicle Inspection Program, performs out of province inspections. The inspection can take up to 2 hours to perform.

If your vehicle fails inspection, you must repair it within 10 days of the date on the record of inspection.

Vehicles repaired and presented for re-inspection within 10 days will be subject to verification of required repairs only. If the vehicle is not presented within 10 days, a new re-inspection will be required at an additional cost.

Inspection certificates must be presented to any Alberta Registry Agent within 14 days from the date of issue. If you fail to present the certificate within 14 days, the vehicle will be required to undergo a full out of province vehicle inspection.

What Is a Multipoint Inspection? Our mechanic (or technician) will perform a stem-to-stern inspection to identify other maintenance or repair items you need. Multi-Point Visual Inspection can alert the owner that some parts are worn out, such as wiper blades or brake pads, or that it’s time for normal preventive maintenance, such as replacing the transmission fluid.  Such services can help keep a vehicle in good operating condition.

Multi-Point Visual Inspection covers brakes, tires, belts and hoses, air filters, lights, the suspension, and other components. Customers get a report card that marks items with color codes: green for good to go, yellow to note that repairs or maintenance may be needed soon, or red to mean service is needed right now. CVIP – Commercial vehicle inspections for Commercial Bus, Light Duty Trucks, School Bus, Light Motorhome, and all makes and models of import and domestic vehicles.

Vehicle Inspection Program – Commercial vehicles Inspection requirements for vehicles with commercial plates. Registered owners of commercial vehicles must ensure that each bus, truck, light truck, or trailer they own receives the required inspection.

Section 19 of the Vehicle Inspection Regulation requires all commercial vehicles to have a valid inspection certificate and decal.

The driver of a commercial vehicle must be able to produce the inspection certificate on the request of an investigator or peace officer.
